Class Levels & Prerequisites
At Flyaway, we offer five distinct levels, each with its own specific set of prerequisites. Understanding your level can assist your instructor in accurately assessing your skills, which can facilitate your progress.
Beginner
Prerequisites:
no prerequisites are necessary for beginners. We simply request a willingness to learn, try and do what you can in class.
The beginner level welcomes individuals with varied backgrounds, ranging from complete novices to those in the process of mastering inversions. It is important to build a strong foundation by learning these fundamental beginner skills which is vital for safety and progression.​
Here are the skills you can expect to learn in beginner level: basic spins, pole climb, pole sit, fan kick, figurehead, headstand, inverted crucifix, outside leg hang and
inside leg hang
Pre-Intermediate
Prerequisites:
basic spins, pole climb, pole sit, fan kick and figurehead​​

This level sits between Beginner and Intermediate, indicating that while you have some experience, you may not feel ready to advance.
Students at the Pre-Intermediate level may have prior experience, are revisiting fundamental skills, or are currently working on mastering the pole inversion.​

Here are some skills to anticipate learning at the pre-intermediate level: inverted crucifix, layback, outside leg hang, inside leg hang and side climb
Intermediate
Prerequisites:
basic spins, pole climb, pole sit, fan kick, figurehead, inverted crucifix, outside leg hang and inside leg hang

Intermediate level pole dancers are required to have completed a beginner pole course and demonstrate proficiency in essential skills such as climbing, sits, and basic spins. While they may still be working on perfecting inverting to crucifix and outside leg hang, mastery is not expected yet. These core skills will be further refined in class through practice and expert instruction.

Here are some skills to anticipate learning at the intermediate level: hip hold, flatline scorpio, superman, genie, butterfly, extended butterfly, shoulder mount, brass monkey and aerial inversions
Higher Intermediate
Prerequisites:
side climb, hip hold, flatline scorpio, superman, genie, butterfly, extended butterfly, shoulder mount, brass monkey and aerial inversions

​Higher Intermediate pole dancers possess confidence in the intermediate-level tricks mentioned earlier. They are generally more acquainted with pole terminology and are beginning to tackle longer combinations and more complex tricks. While these dancers may be able to perform various tricks, they often need refinement in areas such as proper muscle engagement, maintaining correct form, achieving full leg extension with pointed toes, and transitioning smoothly between moves with elegance. Higher Intermediate dancers still have skills to perfect before they can confidently progress to the Advanced level.
Here are some skills to anticipate learning: cupid, iguana, pole handstand and ayesha
Advanced
Prerequisites:
aerial invert, outside leg hang, inside leg hang, genie, superman, cupid, shoulder mount, brass monkey, iguana and ayesha

Advanced level pole dancers should be confident in the prerequisite skills. Striving to further enhance their abilities by exploring new tricks, transitions and combinations. Aiming to perform complete combinations with grace and finesse.
Additionally, take things up a notch by incorporating more demanding tricks, including pole flips and moves that necessitate greater flexibility and strength. Even at this level, there is still so much to learn and explore!

Here are some skills you can expect to learn: pole flips, aerial shoulder mount, deadlift, muscle up, iron x, and pole handstand
